Snowball Studios is a vibrant animation studio with studios in Toronto, Tel Aviv, and Jerusalem. Snowball has produced hundreds of minutes of top quality, 3D animation and visual effects for film, tv, computer games, commercials and mobile, which are aired all over the world.
Snowball Studios is looking for an experienced Groom Artist to join our team. The Groom Artist is responsible for creating realistic natural looking hair, fur, or feathers for digi-doubles, animals, and creatures. There could be a need for foliage or other natural elements that require a groom setup. These grooms need to look realistic as well as being set up technically for proper motion.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Knowledge in creating long hair, short fur or feathers.
Simulate hair and fur within the shot-pipeline.
The ability to closely collaborate with multiple departments including: Modeling, Look dev/ Lighting, and any other department required by production.
Expected to meet with agreed upon schedules and deadlines while maintaining the expected results set forth by the show leads, and production.
Ability to keep an open communication with Show Leads, Supervisors, and Production and able to show progress with assigned tasks.
3+ years of relevant experience in a similar role.
Proven experience with Hair and Fur groom in VFX productions and or high-end 3D animation.
Hair and fur knowledge in Houdini, XGen, Ornatrix or Yeti. Houdini preferred.
Familiarity with shader and texture map creation for hair and fur.
Proven experience with Maya or 3dsMax, among others.
Excellent technical trouble shooting skills and problem-solving abilities.
Understanding of the process of rigging and simulation for hair.
Eye for detail and able to review own work to ensure highest quality grooms.
Excellent time management and prioritization skills with experience working under tight deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Team player who is also able to work independently with minimal supervision
Pro-active and self-motivated.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Must be flexible and willing to learn.
Must be flexible at time for after hours/weekend functions/duties. Must be legally eligible to work in Canada as specified, and, where applicable, must have a valid work permit that allows the candidate to fulfill the requirements of the role.
